Thoughts and happenings
Jan. 22nd, 2012 10:19 pm- Innocence and greed go together very well, and are appealing in small creatures. Two places I've noticed this combination lately: my cat, who wants what she wants wholeheartedly and loves it when she gets it... and Om Nom, the adorable little monster from Cut the Rope who I've spent many happy subway rides feeding candy to on my phone.
This is Om Nom.
This is Om Nom when you're not feeding him fast enough.
Strangely, the innocence/greed thing is terrifying in a large or powerful creature. But in small doses it's quite refreshing, and even inspiring. I want to want things, and enjoy things, with all the purity I see in Nala. - I made a new icon from a still of my one-arm handstand video. I really like it.
- Private homes are weird. I was talking to
heisenbug about this on a walk home from a party last night: we basically maintain an exclusive club that only we are usually invited to, and we literally lock the door to keep everyone else out. Weirder still, this is the norm in our culture -- couples with their own little treehouses, peering down and putting up signs that say "Get Rid of Slimy girlS".
- I went back to yoga and it was okay! I was happy to have
dr_alycat along because I was nervous about being back after so many months... turns out that most of my practice is okay, and of course my straddle's much better, although my hip flexors have lost flexibility. I'm nowhere close to being able to stack my shins in box pose anymore -- I've regressed several years on that one, literally. :-( Funny how you get better at what you work on, and lose what you don't. It's back to regular yoga and splits-stretching for me.
- Speaking of which... free, I'm free, no more Toledo! I'm going to give myself this week to do what I want and not worry about doing anything in particular, although the exploration begins tomorrow with a handbalancing class in Cambridge that started up while I was Toledo-ing. My shoulders can use the break, I think, especially the left one where the outer deltoid has gone a bit numb. (Hmm.) Next weekend I'll sit down and make up a weekly schedule that incorporates about three Toledo-style maintenance workouts and two yoga classes and leaves room for more exploration. For the last three days I've done ONE workout a day and wheee! It's so easy, in comparison.
- I spent time both designing some knitting and coding on my side project this weekend. Not a coincidence. I've spent a TON of time helping other people lately, and it feels good to play around on my own a little. I did work both days too, but mostly things I've actually been wanting to do, so that's okay.
- The End.
