Various catch-ups
Jun. 13th, 2012 02:07 pmSo last weekend I had a birthday. There was a lovely birthday breakfast with
heisenbug and friend at Mr. Crepe, with a bunch of bacon I cooked beforehand and sneaked in... because Mr. Crepe has lousy bacon. I probably ate about half of it. It was overcooked, but for the best possible reason: I was on the phone with Amazon while it was in the oven, finding out that they would happily replace my wonky-screened Kindle. And that was my favorite birthday present.
Spent the weekend out in the middle of nowhere at
crs's wedding, and did small amounts of acro with, among other people, Empire Builder's eldest daughter. Don't drop the boss's kid. I also played lots of Rock Band, several board games (with Trias being the new one, a neat little game based on continental drift). I also played a commercialized version of Eat Poop You Cat, which depended on little dry-erase books. In this, I found that some games really are better with children involved. How do you draw a "watris"? Also, much hilarity can ensue when you draw "out of tall tree" when they apparently wrote "out of jail free" with a backwards J. A couple of iterations later we had "suicide by tree", complete with a stick figure holding a gun to his head next to a tree.
Over the course of the weekend I also finished knitting Stencil's wedding ribbon. This may have contributed to the situation of my right wrist, which is hurting pretty badly in an "irritated, overused tendon" sort of way that is now exacerbated by handstands. (nooooo!) Either way, the ribbon itself came out really well. I'll post a picture soon.
apfelsingail is visiting this week, and that always makes for a good time.
I would be remiss to leave out the one sad thing, and that's Hobbes. Our grouchy old-man cat is getting grouchier and skinnier. I took him to the vet on Monday both to follow up on his thyroid treatment and because of some diarrhea; apparently his thyroid is now controlled but his little bowels are irritated, and his kidney numbers are still "off" enough that he needs special kidney-food. He lost weight last month despite the thyroid stuff. And he's not wanting to eat the tabs for his irritated intestines, so he's on just a fraction of the dose he's supposed to be on, so far. Poor skinny cat.
