Milestones and stuff
Feb. 10th, 2016 12:11 amThe bug and I turned 17 together last Friday -- red white white white red! Because he wasn't feeling well, I brought home surprisingly good Chinese takeout and we played The Witness together for 2+ hours. I am loving that game so much. Oddly, I later got into a talk with co-workers about how it takes a lot of pre-existing mutual respect to be able to play a puzzle game like that truly cooperatively, without worrying about competition with the other player. So maybe our celebration style was oddly relevant, despite being unromantic.
Hypercube turned 2 years old today, the love-faced little beast.
I read Waking Up, which deserves its own entry as the best atheist discussion of spirituality I've read so far, and worked my tail off these last couple of weeks to re-home a lost engineer at work (which also deserves its own entry, but won't get one). I've been working my tail off in general, really, trying to cover for a tech lead who's on paternity leave and handle my on-call rotations and my ten (!) direct reports and, and, and.
This Sunday I started a 4-week press handstand miniseries with Manic Pixie, which is ALL about the painful pike stretching and weird muscle isolations, and tonight I did two TGUs on each side with 40lb. Getting stronger and feeling okay, despite my last two handstand classes being canceled by snow. Sigh... it is February, after all.
On a mildly disturbing note, I had coffee with a work-friend on Monday and he was sad that I have something going on with each of my partners that's kind of a low- to medium-grade chronic stressor. I would've thought most people had that, in a "no partnership is perfect" sort of way, but our talk made me think maybe not, and I don't know what to do with that information. Give it the side-eye, I guess.
