Springy weekend
Mar. 27th, 2016 11:26 pmStill catching up on a tremendous amount of stuff, but I managed to be in spring cleaning mode this weekend, a bit. Taking apart the Dustbuster to clean its disgusting little plastic parts is noble, but not normal. I also swept away some long-irritating cobwebs, ordered new trays to replace the dying rusty ones in our dishwasher, and got rid of 7 shirts after bringing one new one in the door on Saturday. (Plus a skirt, some capris and a pair of sweats).
A lot of what I'm getting rid of is the thin, burn-out and/or mottled stuff I liked a few summers ago. I still have some, but most of it seems irritatingly busy to me now; I find myself wanting solid colors. Also, farewell to the last dark red shirt and the last brown pair of capris -- your colors are not in my palette. Simplify, simplify.
Also on my mind: work stuff. With 10 (soon to be 11) direct reports, and more people wanting to join, it's pretty clear that I have to think seriously about... ulp... creating a layer of managers underneath me. How long did I have between becoming a tech lead, and thinking about how to make my people into tech leads? From mid-2010 to late 2013, just over three years. Well, I've been managing for 3.5 years, now. Long enough to get a grip on it; and this year it's time to teach others how to get a grip.
Last but not least, I set a new personal record on Turkish get-ups! 45 pounds.
