A random 3goodthings post
Jul. 3rd, 2016 03:10 pmAnyone remember the
3goodthings community? Yeah, me neither. Anyway, random smattering of stuff:
1) I'm probably getting a referral bonus from Zillian -- for referring a fellow circus monkey, no less! If it goes through, it'll be my first in six years.
2) In other faintly-monetary news, I got a note from kiva.org telling me I'd been a member for 10 years. Wow. I've been consistently re-lending the whole time -- my system is to drip a little credit into the system every month, let the repayments come in, and just lend whatever credit I have -- so some of those dollars have been lent quite a few times now. Happy Kiva-birthday to me!
As a minor atheist nose-thumbing, I joined the A+ team in 2008 when they introduced the idea of lending teams: that's "(A+) Atheists, Agnostics, Skeptics, Freethinkers, Secular Humanists and the Non-Religious". This happens to be the lendingest team of all time, currently ahead of "Kiva Christians" by $27M to $24.7M lent. Being part of that is pretty excellent too, in a less noble and more smirky way.
3) I saw Sting and Peter Gabriel in concert together last night! It was so much fun. They had both their full bands on stage the whole time, and more or less alternated songs all night -- except when each of them sang the other one's songs, or they sang together. It was super satisfying to watch these two guys, each one a superstar with not a lot left to prove, just enjoying each others' company as equals and having this musical conversation. It managed to be both old-school (yes, of course a lot of the music was 20 years old) and fresh, with never-done-before covers and collaborations. It made me like and admire both of them more than I did walking in.
