Around the sun / Atlanta, part 2
Jun. 10th, 2018 07:03 pmBut wait, the trip wasn't over when I posted before. Well, the trip around the sun was, but not the trip to Atlanta. It turned out I had more to learn, and learn it I did:
On the plane to head back now, and the nice airplane ladies would like me to close my laptop before takeoff, so this concludes my recounting of lessons. Thanks to
apfelsingail for being a marvelous host and taking me to ALL the gyms and spas. :-)
- What kimchi tastes like -- I'd always been too scared to try it before.
- What it's like to be scrubbed within an inch of my life at a Korean spa, with a middle-aged Korean lady taking all the dead skin off my entire body with some kind of Brillo mitts. Then sluicing me down with warm water like a car in a car wash. My skin is soft now, but I think I valued the experience just for the sensation -- on the edge of hurting sometimes, but my back felt THOROUGHLY scratched and that was just marvelous.
- New trapeze tricks (!), in particular a Russian (or is it a Russian roll?), which I've always thought looked particularly neat. I learned the one-leg version and the two-leg version (harder), and pieces of something called either a Montreal or Montiel that basically involves getting into a cross-back position on the trapeze. I was grateful that the class (really a pretty low-key skillshare) was OK with a random, weirdly strong beginner joining them.
