There and back again
Mar. 10th, 2019 07:13 pmFlew to California and back, with a 3-hr delay on the first day due to weather happening in Boston (plus police action in the tunnels that kept the bus from going to the airport -- yipes). I had some semi-important work with a fake deadline set aside for the airplane, but connectivity was lousy so I couldn't, and was late on all that. I then spent the whole week having meetings and dinners, getting ever more panicky about the not-done, late things. Despite several efforts to spend random evening time on these, most of them finally got done on Saturday.
The upside was having Lion along on his own business trip. There'd been some uncertainty on whether he was going to stay with me or with a platonic friend, and Lioness must have been feeling calm about things because he did stay with me (yay!). There was some weirdness on Monday that could have been avoided with better, earlier communication, but it worked out. And I am not great yet at sleeping with him (sleeping sleeping), but that got better each night. So I didn't get touch-starved, sex-starved or even lonely, just more behind on work than I would have been if traveling alone. A tradeoff I was willing to make this time. I took the red-eye back on Friday while he stayed an extra night to see his San Francisco sexyfriend, and that was that... very little drama. We didn't seem to get on each other's nerves much. And JetBlue Mint is definitely the way to do red-eye, if one wishes to do so in order to get home to one's cat.
After lots of work sleepily done on Saturday, I slept for 11 hours straight and woke up with less than an hour to get to a three-hour Sunday handstand workshop taught by this guy. I made it and had a really good time, and was pleased with my strength and balance even though I was one of the least advanced folks in the class. The teacher's main philosophy is to find really calm balances, and then work a lot in places where the balance is less comfortable in order to make a regular handstand become "easy mode". It turns out I like holding a handstand with a 6-lb medicine ball held between my feet, though I can't get there by myself.
Wish I could train more. But it's still massive crazytime at work.
