Trying to get back into normal life is hard with yet a third family thing on the horizon: my dad is having open heart surgery on Wednesday. (My mom doesn't know this. I never told her last week because... she didn't ask about him, not once, not at all.) My dad's being obstinate as usual -- doesn't want me to go out there or to help financially during any of the recovery. I spoke forcefully to him on the phone, told him it's about helping his wife with the caretaking and not just about helping him, etc. Typical for him, he said he'd rather go crawl off in the woods and die. I said, fine, but maybe she wouldn't, and he laughed and said good point, kiddo. So yeah. I don't want to go to Montana but I do sort of want to strangle him. We'll see how it all goes.
In the meantime, I had 2.5 days at work. It... wasn't normal. I finally had a 1:1 with my new VP, which was nice, and co-delivered a presentation to him that drew a really startling amount of response/support. I think the working group I've been running just got massively leveled up! Stressful but cool. Now I need to drag myself out of the hole of a different project so that I can really lean in on that one. Maybe that's what this coming week is for.
I also did another interview with that non-profit, and definitely don't want to work there. It was interesting to do the interview though.
Shoving myself right back into handstands was the right call, at least; and being home is great, and the weather is summery and all of that has felt extremely good. Slowly putting things back into place after the travel. I finally got date nights with both bug & squirrel, with their associated games, and only a bit of added concern added on Saturday when the bug tested faintly positive for covid. I didn't though, and I haven't yet, and now he's testing negative too, so mayyyybe I escaped. Will keep testing before I go anywhere, for a few more days.
