Midweek moments (mostly from Wednesday)
Apr. 17th, 2026 06:10 pmA few of the little things that don't make the weekly summary.
Yesterday hit the high 70s for the first time this year. I had an excellent handstand lesson, followed by a stop to eat a mini fruit pie in the shade of a cherry tree while listening to a podcast about consciousness. Remember this, I thought to myself, this chill moment just might be peak 2026, or peak something anyway.
I pulled over 100 maple seedlings out of my front yard, and later another 100 out of the yard at my rental place, after having a discussion about how brutal gardening is. No other pursuits have led me to take so many lives, or to stop so many small life-scraps from becoming more. I'm not stopping at this time, especially given that Norway maples are invasive and that most of them would die later anyway and blah, blah, blah,* but I do think about how plants can be anesthetized. Weird, huh?
I did a better job today of assuming other people's jobs are fun for them, and speaking accordingly, which had been a bit of an issue with someone a while ago.
* I eat meat and support abortion rights; obviously I don't act as though life -- that is, the extension of every life -- were sacred.
