I called home and HLM thinks we have fleas! Well, that would explain the repeated bites I've been getting around my ankles overnight; fleas apparently prefer them. And HLM saw what he thinks was a flea this morning.

From some website or other: by the time you notice fleas, there will already be enormous numbers of eggs, caterpillars and cocoons in your carpet.

Fucking fantastic. I'm glad we at least threw the carpet out. And HLM is now energetically cleaning things.

I was trying to find that flea detection method I mentioned on the phone and couldn't find it - my mom told me about it so I left her a msg. Lemme know if you tried it and it worked....

which doesn't mean it didn't work, since we actually failed to find solid evidence of fleas anywhere else, either (and no new bites this morning). Could be the whole thing was just a scare.

Or, as Time reports this week, it could be bedbugs, which are apparently booming in major cities these days. Another exciting prospect but, for some reason, less icky-seeming than fleas.
