I heart long weekends
May. 29th, 2006 11:52 pmX-men on Friday persuaded me... I am prepared to publicly admit that I like Hugh Jackman now. Never did before. I guess there's just something about seeing a hot, shirtless guy stoically endure severe pain as he fights his way over to a woman in order to tell her that he's willing to die for her.
I also, on the same night, heard the best conversational segue ever. Maybe I just liked it because it stopped a long string of drinking stories that people had been telling.
Drinkin' girl: ...and this party was so crazy I think they'd ordered a scorpion bowl APIECE before the night was over.
Friend guy: Oh, I can top that.
Drinkin' girl: Yeah?
Friend guy: Melinda's pregnant. (his wife -- name changed to protect the guilty, of course).
Saturday, I heard a song in McGym that I liked. I made a mental note of a few of the lyrics, and looked it up at home to find that it was The Engine Driver by the Decemberists. Weird, because I know they also played Eli the Barrow Boy during that same workout session. Are the Decemberists getting popular or something? That seems really strange.
bluechromis's bbq on Sunday was a good chance to see people I haven't seen in forever. I brought some Original Sin, which is tasty and locally made, and was psyched that only one was left at the end of the evening! My calves are really sore today, apparently from all the standing around directly after lower-body lifting, but I was proud of myself for being relaxed and social for the most part.
Today, I've spent mostly drawing stuff for my zine. Even deciding to make the comic part of it black and white instead of color, I forgot how much work comics are to make. But the best part of today was really talking to this girl who's always impressed and intimidated me at McGym. This girl is basically Godzilla (but in a good way) -- I yielded the title of strongest girl in the free weights area the moment she walked in. Well, today she complimented me on a headstand and we talked. Turns out she's been sneaking looks at me just as long as I've been watching her! We do pretty different things so there's plenty of room there for co-inspiration. It was such a nice boost.
