I'm wasting time on VistaPrint because I read this article on business card best practices and it made me think about carrying personal cards again... preferably getting them made more nicely this time, and preferably able to double as a quasi-business card. Trouble is, I'm stuck because I loved the idea of having a tag cloud on the back of the card (see comment 36) and I'm not done writing it yet. :) I also keep taking time out to look over the custom envelopes, even though there is no need for me to buy them.

I also found out today that Jam'nastics offers an adult gymnastics class in the old MIT gym... long ago I took a gymnastics PE class in that very spot. I want to call them to see exactly what sorts of things they cover, but I think the odds are pretty good that I'll sign up for some of that in the fall.

Dialogue from the workplace:
TC: I think what [that manager] is looking for is basically half a Professional Services person and half an IT manager.
flexy: Well, with a big enough paper cutter anything's possible... *turns back to computer*
TC to DtC: She has an evil sense of humor, you know that?
DtC: That's why we hired her.

i'm confused about the tag cloud idea. is it a list of everything you do? cause that's what i was thinking i would have to put on a personal business card if i ever created one. i could circle the relevant parts before handing it off and it would look something like

Yes, exactly -- though I think to be a tag cloud it also has to be a weighted list (that's what wikipedia says, anyway). The idea is that you see things alphabetically and by importance simultaneously.

I dig your tag cloud so far, although you need to add Zines and what about Philip Pullman? I'd have a hard time with mine, things I do, and more so their relative importance, change so frequently. It's an interesting exercise anyway.

Silly, silly. I got them for free, so the graphics/colors suck, but otherwise I still kind of like them.

*Beta Tau Psi = the sorority that Katie and I, along with 2 other girls who depledged Alpha Phi with us, "founded". Beta Tau Psi, aka Better Than You**. We had a rocking initiation. Katie's cards declared her the Grand Pubah.

**Yes, yes, Psi is not actually Y, but there was no Y and so we decided a look-alike was good enough.

Yeah, the tag cloud is hard. If I add zines it'd be honest and I'd have a perfect W-X-Y-Z but they're not (necessarily) as professionally acceptable as most of what I've listed so far. I'm still deciding. As for Pullman, no, if I let him in I'd end up with wayyyyyy too many authors. Note the "science fiction" entry.

I like BTY, that's cute! My social cards never had any sort of title on them and I can't imagine what I'd put now, so they probably won't again. Hmmm...
