Ah, it's not, actually. That talk with my boss turned out to be about a different position, not the one I thought he'd want me in and in fact not one I'm enthused about. This is fine -- it spares me the agonizing.

The odds of this new thing happening seem to be 50/50. I should be able to share within the week.
