  • Work has been sitting on me, ugh, *spit*. Last Friday was an artificially imposed, internal deadline on a project I don't care about, but I decided to work super-long hours for it anyway out of that classic engineer desire to make things work. Well, they kind of work now, or rather, we voted to freeze the code anyway, so back to the 40-hour week! Huzzah!
  • Laser hair removal aftermath is interesting. What happens is that the hair seems to keep growing as always, but after it gets about as long as the length of a plucked-out eyebrow (assume you got it when it was short), it starts to fall out. After that, shorter and shorter ones start to work their way out. Yep, I'm sure that when the laser technician told me to gently exfoliate every day, she really meant "have fun autistically pulling on your armpit hairs every day to see which ones will fall out NOW".
  • Does anyone ([livejournal.com profile] islenskr?) know where to find a wide variety of pearls online? I need oval pearl beads about 6-7 mm long, and 4-5 mm across at the widest point, in order to re-make a pair of favorite earrings. I made a practice pair on Saturday that look great, aside from the fact that they use cheap plastic beads instead of pearls, so I'm ready for the real thing now.
  • I was told yesterday by someone who knows me well that I'm somewhat single-skill focused. This amuses me because I so often feel like I have no focus. Or like I have six top priorities at once, and I only stop adding to them when they start cannibalizing each other.
  • The woman in charge of publicity for Maya Tulum found my video of it on YouTube and wants to link to it from the resort's site. Whee! I told her she could.
  • Those of you with non-Stone Age cell phones can get free endangered species ringtones from the Center for Biological Diversity, if it takes your fancy. I really want the crawfish frog one, but my phone is so moldy that it can't play mp3s. I really should wander over to the Verizon store in the mall and see if maybe they owe me a new phone by now; if they do, I'm sure I can donate the old one to a worthy cause.

Jewelry making is a bit like starting an expensive addiction. With that said, here are a couple of other sites:
http://www.jewelrysupply.com/beads/pearls.html
http://www.treasureislandpearls.com/sunshop/
http://www.agrainofsand.com/Beads-Pearls-26.html

Some of these are probably sites that are going to be some that your friend gave you.

Yay pearls! I've been kind of lusting over Girls in Pearls for some time, but I don't want to pay full price for it unless it's fabulous. The Met had a great book about pearls that came out about 5 years ago that was worth every penny.
