A strange and freaky bit of news...
Apr. 28th, 2003 02:58 pmSo... I heard back (by email) from the family of that long-lost friend (see last Weds, April 23rd). My heart really went pitta-pat when I got the letter! Apparently the friend is still alive and in Cambridge, but in a very weird state.
Dear [soyfetus],
Thanks for your concern for LLF (long lost friend). I would love it if you could mange to reestablish your friendship with him.
He has dropped out, so to speak. We have not had contact with him since november. His Dad went to visit him as we were unable to reach him, and he stayed for the weekend. They had a good visit, and LLF said all is well, but he just isn't seeking contact with others at this time.
LLF does not have a phone. He is not connected to the internet at this time, that we are aware of. I will give you his address, but will warn you, he may not answer the door. I hope you can find a way to reach him. I expect you are resourceful enough to find a way.
There is one complication, and I would ask you to keep this confidential, until you speak with LLF yourself. He asked us not to give his address to [one particular person] when he left [his last company]. Don't know enough to tell you more.
As far as [mutual friends MF1 and MF2], I just don't know. Might be helpful, but perhaps you can manage a way to reach LLF, and if you can, then you can ask him how he feels about seeing some of the gang.
LLF's address is xxxxxxxx xxxx xxxxxx xxxxxx, 02138
Our phone number is the same kinda.... they changed the area codes here, we are xxx-xxx-xxxx. My email is xxxxx@xxxxx.xxx.
I was thrilled to get your letter. I do not think you are being melodramatic. I hope you can find a way to see him. Good luck.
Thankyou,
[name]
Ssssssss.... this is weird and maybe not good at all. I will try to see him, of course, dropping him a note first to tell him when I'm thinking of coming by. Odds of success? No idea at this point. But I can't even imagine not trying. I used to be one of the people he'd let in even when most people were shut out.
