I remember the $300 in 2000. I wonder...if we all gave that back do you think the universe would take pity on us, turn back the clock to 1999, and let us reconsider our electoral decisions?

I'm racking my brains to remember it... I was paying taxes and should have qualified. Probably if I look back I'll find some month where I paid $300 extra on student loans, I was that virtuous in those days.

Changing my vote wouldn't even help, alas. :(

Well, I did something similarly virtuous I'm sure, but $300 was still something I noticed. :) And no, for the record, I didn't vote for Bush, but clearly changing 50% (or even 2%) of the vote would have helped, so I guess that's what I was kidding about. But I didn't vote for Bush. For the record. Seriously.

You might be like me: I never got an actual check in 2001 (not in 2000 people, Bush wasn't president yet), but when it came time to fill out my taxes for that year it all shook out and I got an extra $300 back.
