City, puppies, orange things, acro...

Appropriately enough, the 2008 winner of the Bulwer-Lytton contest is out and here it is:
I went down to NYC on Friday night and came back Sunday night. Some things about NYC... well, the folks who say it's busy and crowded and dirty actually have a point. Also, so many stores full of cheap jewelry! Also, stores that claim to have "all kinds of DVDs" actually have a bit of a specialty... speaking of dirty. :) Papaya juice is really in this year, AND, since it is springtime, you know those little tiny dogs that lots of New Yorkers seem to have? The little tiny puppies from which they originate are in the windows this time of year, and they are super adorable. :)
And I did stuff as well as looking in windows. Yes! I stayed in a hostel, which was kind of exciting (nothing got stolen), and then I did acroyoga and learned how to walk people up and down between star:

and straddle bat:

and from star down to back-flying but not the other way. Then, lunch and a counterbalance workshop with
nevers , in which I learned only a couple of things I hadn't done before... but it was fun anyway. They put us in plank position and said lock eyes with the person in front of you and lower down 2 inches... 2 more... 2 more... ha, I think
nevers and I could both have gone a lot slower.
heisenbug 's bus had come in by then, so I met him and we went to see the Legend of the Toxic Avenger musical, which uh... was amusing, actually, and had a great set with lots of rusty barrels. Slept a lot. Then spent Sunday walking around buying stuff, talking the bug into getting a nice argyle sweater. :)
I never used to like orange, but lately have decided it's nice under some circumstances, so one of my new purchases is a little orange shrug. First, one day soon when it's warm enough I can dress up like a creamsicle. Second, this is exactly the kind of random, tiny, kinda positive little change in myself that I've been wanting to see.
Here's the funny thing -- turns out I'm going to California next week, so my little ploy to get a little adventure and travel suddenly turned into a lot.
And another funny thing -- there are new "acrobalance" classes starting up in the Boston area tomorrow night. Not quite sure what those will consist of, but I should investigate.
Life is exciting again!
Theirs was a New York love, a checkered taxi ride burning rubber, and like the city their passion was open 24/7, steam rising from their bodies like slick streets exhaling warm, moist, white breath through manhole covers stamped "Forged by DeLaney Bros., Piscataway, N.J."
