Happy "twenty ten"

flexagonHappy 2010, me hearties! I've been away in California for a few days, and I typed in a post on my smartphone but managed to lose it before I could actually publish the thing. It was still in December then, and I was wondering whether people would be saying "twenty ten" or "two thousand ten" for this year. The media and my friends are already in full agreement -- "twenty ten" wins.
We flew in last night; I spent part of today de-Christmassing the house, and part of it writing up my 2009 retrospective. (After writing it, I read my next-older one from 2008 and it became really clear that the last year has kicked ass in comparison.)
Before leaving I was on a small "getting rid of stuff" tear. It seems that getting a bunch of new things leads to that urge as irresistably as eating a large meal leads to certain other processes. It helped a lot to learn that our local veterinarian takes donations of old sheets, towels and bedding -- goodbye, grungy old sheets! -- and that Dell will recycle my old laptop for free.
I'm planning to take a break from buying things from now-ish until the March bonus, as I did last year but without last year's pressures, so I won't be buying clothes or books or hobby things for a while. As before, the thought is triggering a little bit of "but, first I really need X" behavior. Also, home improvement stuff is exempt, and that includes my office-corner project, so can anyone recommend me a good home office chair? :)
