Picking up girls gets me all excited.
Feb. 8th, 2010 11:37 pmWent to
ellenclaire's acro class tonight and learned that straddle throne can be done on hands, overhead -- very cool. I knew I'd see a few people I know, but I also ran into
le_coeur_chante as a nice extra surprise. And this was tonight, grainy but good:

Tomorrow I'm going to Zacro and Wednesday to acroyoga. So for those who are keeping track of these things, note that it's now possible to live in Boston and take THREE DIFFERENT ACRO CLASSES on three consecutive days! And there's still
dilletante's silks group in JP, and some parkour groups, and some gymnastics going on at MIT that I'm not involved with at all. People, this is not the town it was two years ago... and I'm so happy about that. :D

Date: 2010-02-09 09:19 pm (UTC)Not sure how much I'll be able to come -- I'm already paying four different places every week for my workouts, ouch -- but I still have some classes on my SBY card so definitely will be back a few times.

Date: 2010-02-10 04:06 pm (UTC)With one hand, the base lets go of the flyer's calf, brings that hand around to the front and finds the inner thigh just above the knee. The flyer lets that leg bend and come out to the side... flyer's toes remain hooked behind the arm so her foot actually doesn't move much, only a few inches. When that arm is straightish and feels stable, the same thing happens with the other side.
(The dismount we were taught was to set the flyer down on the shoulders after this, but none of us really nailed that. There must be a better way down, maybe just coming back to two-high.)

Date: 2010-02-12 06:49 pm (UTC)It's much easier to nail the dismount to shoulder sit when the base is standing, because the base can adjust (by taking a tiny step forward or backward) to catch the flyer in the right spot. It's also crucial that the flyer unhook her toes and extend the legs out into a straddle, which most people weren't doing completely. :)
