1) So I saw Threshold on Thursday night. It was a five-acrobat show, and I knew four of the five people (the only one I don't know, the contortionist, is also the one whose body I really don't understand). Very cool to see people in performance who I've talked to, laughed with, touched. Between that and having done many of the tricks they did, it totally changed the dynamic of watching a show. It was more analytical (hey, I can do that, I can do that, nope I can't do that), but also a lot more personally affecting. Like, when they did a three-high most people seemed to be clapping the entire time, but I was scared and quiet until they made it safely back down.

Er, mostly safely back down. Because after that trick, one of my teachers fell backwards and put her hand out and (I found out much later) broke her wrist. Augh! If that story sounds familiar, it should. Apparently my behavior is not unique. >.<

2) My cat is getting bald spots. For a few weeks I thought the vet had shaved a couple of patches of her fur in order to draw blood at her last appointment, but finally it's become clear that it's spreading. It's not irritated and she's not over-grooming the areas, and the vet says it's not parasites but otherwise can't tell us anything. Sigh... off we go to the cat dermatologist.

3) In the gym yesterday I did some Toledo leg-straddle stuff and then tried a workout from Oxygen magazine, then did splits for 20 minutes. I touched down on both sides, very briefly! I have to really consciously relax the small muscles near my hips to get there, and it hurts, and I can't stay there yet -- have to get back out before the stretch reflex kicks in. But it was a fabulous milestone anyway, and motivating.

4) [livejournal.com profile] heisenbug and I are watching Firefly. It's so good! Of course I'm only watching it because I know its run was limited to one season, but it's fun to have a favorite TV show again. Doesn't hurt that it passes the Bechdel Test pretty regularly and has a young, female crack mechanic.

It was really a total fluke fall. It was a dismount from hand to foot that I have done *literally* hundreds of times. The base and I misread each other, but the landing wasn't even that hard - I was just caught totally off guard and put my hand down. =/

Apologies for not chatting more at the show, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with being a bit later than I wanted and the crowded seating conditions.
It's scary how quickly an injury can occur, I noticed her hitting the ground emphatically and then moving quickly off stage, but didn't even notice the wrist. :/

Firefly is very good. I also recommend Dollhouse, but it takes MUCH longer to get going than Firefly does.

Hey, does the Boston group do a lot of shows? I'd love to see one or two!

Wow, the broken wrist sucks a lot! Seems to be a lot of 'silly' injuries going around. (Perhaps it's time for another sacrifice of a rubber chicken...) I hope your teacher gets better soon!

I hope your kitty gets better!

Congrats on the splits touch-down!! That's fantastic!
