Cece boots, and no-thing-buying time this year

Today I welcomed Cece to my little family of Fluevogs. These have a very close-fitting calf and appear/feel absolutely indestructible. I'm told they last forever and that every part is fixable, from deep scuffs in the leather to resoling to re-zippering (but the zippers are metal and heavy-duty, so I don't see that being needed). I'm happy. I might have coaxed my last pair of boots along through the rest of this season, but then I might not have, and these rock.



Embarrassingly, as I walked to the shoe store I put a toe through yet another goddamn Gap sock. These things are dying at the rate of just about one sock every time I wear a pair, and I haven't had them for long. So unhappy. I stopped at Macy's on my way back, bought a bunch of socks and have now ousted every old Gap sock from my drawer... TAKE THAT, FLIMSY DOUCHENOZZLE SOCKS.

I hear your voices saying "But, flexagon, don't you usually have a weird No Thing Buying policy in effect in the first part of the new year?" Well, yes. But I have a photo shoot coming up for which I'd prefer to get some new clothes, and the sock thing? Real problem. It's supposed to be a break from consumerism, not Uncomfortable No Sock Wearing Time. So the deal is that I'm not buying books, as of Christmas; my to-read shelf is full and badly needs to be read down; but full no-thing-buying has to wait.

Oh honey, you won't ever hear a peep from me about new shoes!

(I don't like wearing socks and only do so if absolutely necessary. Of course, I can probably get away with it in this climate more easily than you can.)

Do you even wear sneakers and boots without socks? Or can you wear sandals/heels all winter? I'll generally go sockless for sandals, but workout and winter options seem to demand that extra layer.

Usually I wear tights with dressier boots. I have a pair of Frye boots that I layer ankle socks under tall socks because they rub my ankles. I also have several pairs of cowboy boots that are highly embellished (and don't wear often) that I wear knee high cotton or smart wool socks with.

I don't like wearing trainers and don't unless I'm working out or mowing the lawn or doing something with power tools. Much of the time I go sockless. For work, I either wear heels or flats like ballet flats most of the time. It doesn't snow often here (2-3 times a winter) and when it does snow, there isn't much of it, and it's gone in a couple of days.

It has been in the 30s for a high for the past couple of days, which is pretty cold for us. It should be in the high 50s by next weekend. It's not really a climate where one has to be too careful of the cold most of the time.
