With apologies to friends who didn't see the last super-emo post or two: it feels so unfamiliar and good to feel safe again. (Okay, safer; safe enough to be getting on with.) All week I've been, to varying degrees, able to focus on my own work and my own life and my own later-than-usual Christmas preparations. It's really kind of magical.

Today I spent almost entirely on my own, and shipped packages and did tons of house-cleaning and grooming and holiday shopping. Then I took a nap, very peacefully, with an ocicat by my side and the lyrics to "Do You Hear What I Hear" running through my head. Originally a plea for peace written during the Cuban Missile Crisis, now an evocative and haunting song about perception (and kind of about the baby Jesus, though at least they don't name him).

Said the flexagon to the internet,
Do you sleep like I sleep?
All around the world, internet.
Do you sleep like I sleep?
A nap, a nap, fur against my hand
With a dream that shifts like the sand,
With a dream that shifts like the sand.

On Thursday I took new video of some of my straddle exercises, so that I can do a before-and-after with clips from four years ago. And with that I'm done, I think, with my old friend the 35-pound bar and the seated straddle good mornings. Stomach-to-floor is good enough for passive flexibility. What I need now is active; from now on I'm going to work toward lighter weights and trying to get the same ROM.

Handstands. Wrapping presents. It's all so doable in isolation. I have a really huge (record-breaking?) number of unread work messages, which is my last mountain to tackle this weekend, so I'm off to get a start on that. It, too, is doable. Oh, sure, I won't clear my queue of things to reply to, but all I really have to do is survive four more work-days (with three levels of management visiting, eep) and then the whole company basically stops dead for two weeks. I can catch up then, if I don't get that far now.
