I'm optimistic and excited about athletic things right now. My handstand kickup (lunge-up, step-up) has gotten a lot better recently, both in executing well and in being able to stick the handstand when I don't execute well. Hold times aren't sucking either -- yesterday I would have gotten a 60s hold on video if I hadn't lost count of the seconds, gotten confused about math and lost my abs at 50. It was only today that I realized my weekly Turkish Get-Ups are probably what's helping... they really force my shoulders to stabilize at a lot of weird angles, with lighter weight than a handstand provides, and that actually makes sense as a thing that would enhance shoulder intelligence. (Also TGUs are like a dance I can actually do, so I love them.)

My new base, who will be named Panther, is also a great new development. We seem able to feel each other's timing well. We played for a couple of hours yesterday and maybe an hour today, just running through a bunch of things. Today we did two pops I'd never done before, between straddle throne and reverse star; yes, a full half-flip. Also from star down to reverse throne, which turns out to be remarkably not a big deal. And from straddle throne to straddle bat, which is wonky as hell but we've never missed it. So some really big flippy tricks, including new ones! The two of us together have a lot of power, and when things go wrong it's often because we overdo it. FUN FUN FUN. :D

Oh -- and Panther is also a real grown-up adult with a career, who isn't about to run off and go pro and who also has resources for lessons/classes. Two very good signs, for the medium/long term.

The Ant was also there in open studio today. We did exactly one thing together, a standing hand-to-hand with a slow press to extended and then a nice descent. It was simultaneously no big deal (we were confident, experienced) and also such a great gift to be able to do a thing like that.
