An eventful weekend. On Saturday I was having the first good tae kwon do day in a long time (sparred well against a couple of people, then was doing good work in the special side kick class) until I jammed my knee kicking the swinging punching bag. Just what the teacher said could happen in that drill if we weren't careful... so, fair enough, kind of. :b Then I met up with
rumgirl to paint pottery and talk about how unscientifically I'm working out... after which we had dinner with a girl I was warned was a conversational narcissist. And what happened? The damn conversation kept reverting to ME like a boomerang, for reasons not of my devising. I can only hope this poor girl was amused/diverted and not just in stymied narcissist hell.
Today I woke up with a very stiff knee (okay as long as it doesn't straighten fully or bend fully). I iced it and finished reading The Difference Engine, which was wonderful because I've been reading that stupid thing for about a week and now I never have to read it again. Then I read a little bit about search algorithms for T's seminar at work, and skipped TKD stretching class in favor of dishes and snuggling. Then... this is the good part... I hopped myself up on caffeine and a cookie, went to the Arlington gym and, mindful of
rumgirl's talk of splits and glycogen, decided to really push things with the upper body workout since I couldn't do much lower. I was feeling good and ended up setting a new PR on bench presses, doing two full sets of 10 with 40-lb dumbbells. Wa-hoo! Now, I know a lot of people who read this are super buff and won't think much of 80 pounds, but I'd just like to say to those people that that's 2/3 of my body weight! So your line should go something like, not bad for a scrawny chick. And also, personal records are always good. So there. I also almost succeeded in moving from 25s to 30s on military presses, but just couldn't get it into position on the left side. One hazard of working out alone... but I'm getting closer. Soon, soon. I felt so buff even for getting close. For lower body, I couldn't load my knees so I just did abductors and adductors, and glutes on the hip machine, and called 'er quits. I don't think I would have done much even w/o the hurt knee though, as one of my hammies is strained a bit from yesterday. Must... have... p a t i e n c e . . .
I never did update my website and now I think I'm headed to B's for the rest of the evening. Doh. It's good for my wrists to take 2 days off typing though... I was feeling a bit RSI-ed at the end of last week, and I think the weekend of site updates was a big part of why.
