Last night was kind of cool. Two things happened that I liked: first, the L and J dawgs came over to our place for the first time. I love hangin' with the dawgs, not least because J-dawg and HLM get along really well, but also because they're just so peaceful. Anyway, I hauled out one of my most impressive recipes, one I often reserve for bosses and in-laws, and sure enough it made them happy. Good... perhaps they'll come over again. And I actually drank my share of a bottle of red wine--weird, I know, maybe my tastes are changing--and after that I was talkative. Does red wine always do that? :)

Second, a contractor came to look at some work that needs doing. Most of the work needs to be done on the main house, and will be paid for from the condo association fund (or split 3 ways between us all if we decide to do something that costs more than the fund has). However, a couple of things are for our unit, and I'll be ultra-excited about getting those done if the cost is at all affordable. I refer mostly to remaking the drawers in the pantry, which would free up storage for an under-the-counter dishwasher installation.... rrrrrrrrr. But we did have him look at the bathroom briefly. That turns out to be their specialty, and he said we could spend anywhere from $3,000 to $15,000 on a remodel. Thanks, yeah, that helps so much with the budgeting. .

I've been having housekeeping issues with HLM lately.. it's very Bitch in the House Chapter 1. The things he doesn't do that bother me are so easy to do, it's almost impossible to keep myself from just doing them, so they'll be done, even if the workload is technically uneven if I do it all. Of course, in that spirit I put away all the dishes a couple of mornings ago, after several days of them being the only eyesore in the kitchen... less than two minutes' work, I swear. I thought he would know I was annoyed, then, and be a little better. Turns out he didn't even notice I'd done it! He saw the empty dishrack but just assumed he had done it. Argh! WTF!? There's just nowhere to start the negotiations with that level of nonattention being given to the issue in the first place. :b My only remaining hope is that a) my iron will can hold sway in the living room, at least, and b) if I continue to be super-good, we'll both simply get used to a higher standard of neatness, and exceptions to the rule will stand out more than they do now, even to the absentminded. What do you think, boys? Am I fooling myself with that last one?
