There will be no more plaque above my door? There will be no more flack about my dog? There will be no more crappin' on my floor?

It's a song I keep hearing at the gym. I was guessing Sarah McLachlan but it turns out to be by Dido. Real lyrics here... it turns out to express very unhealthy feelings indeed, and it's a white flag that won't be above her door. Okay then! Unfortunately, I now hate the song because it's so defeatist. :(

2003: Last night I wrote my end-of-year summary. Retrospection all done. Even so, I like this meme I saw in [livejournal.com profile] zjande's journal and have decided to steal it.

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
Got married. Lower body weightlifting for real. Went to Europe.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make one last year, though I did fulfil the one from the year before. I am making one for 2004 that will be hard for me to keep, but I'm gonna do it.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes... my ever-so-close friend M, HLM's old friend S and my coworker T (okay, that one was an adoption, but same damn difference). There are babies everywhere.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No

5. What countries did you visit?
Germany and Italy

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003
A condo. A new job maybe.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
September 13, when I got married, duh.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Persevering (after the initial crap-out) with tae kwon do? Surviving the wedding? I dunno...

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not running with my magazine idea when I first had it, probably, although the timing there was not on my side. Or maybe it was fucking up my friendship with kfb.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing major

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My wedding dress :)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mother-in-law's, probably, she's being very gracious. And all the people who threw my bachelorette party and were otherwise so nice and generous about the wedding, especially [livejournal.com profile] bluechromis.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Jimmy's

14. Where did most of your money go?
Saving for the condo. After that, rent. And, for a while there, the wedding, but it never topped the first two.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My wedding. The condo hunt.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
The music HLM composed for the wedding

17. Compared to this time last year, are you
i. happier or sadder? Sadder probably, but only because this time last year I was wildly giddy about having become engaged :)
ii. thinner or fatter? Same
iii. richer or poorer? Less $ in the bank, more $ on paper

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Stretching

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating, worrying about TKD, picking my stupid face and then wondering why it breaks out

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Already did it: sleepily, with my bug and the kitties

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
Yes, with the condo we're buying :)

23. How many one-night stands?
None

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. (Most years I wouldn't be able to answer this at all. I've gone so mainstream! Augh!)

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope

26. What was the best book you read?
The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon. Coraline by Neil Gaiman. The Skeptical Environmentalist by Bjorn Sjoholm. Oh, but wait, it didn't ask for three... :)

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Mezzanine by Massive Attack

28. What did you want and get?
Married. A new mattress. Our landlords to be nicer about us breaking our lease.

29. What did you want and not get?
My blue belt in tae kwon do. My face to be perfect for the wedding.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Huh...? I have no idea what even came out this year aside from Return of the King.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Twenty-six. I had a great birthday with lots of friends around me and I felt truly blessed.

32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Actually doing something about my magazine idea

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Kind of standard casual Cambridge/Boston attire. More open to corduroy and to soft colors than I have been before.

34. What kept you sane?
My bug, the cats, my friends, working out.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Orlando Bloom as Legolas, if "can't breathe when he's on the screen" is what fancying means. I doubt I'd particularly like him in person, esp as he looks like a dweeb without hair.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Gay marriage, esp the brave decision on the part of the Massachusetts courts. :)

37. Who did you miss?
Tom

38. Who was the best new person you met?
[livejournal.com profile] andycomment

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
People skills can be learned, even if they don't come naturally. Enthusiasm can be generated artificially and still have real, positive effects on the world. Marriage doesn't change anything very much.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

"Ain't much I'm askin', if you want the truth;
here's to the future, and the dreams of youth.

I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, I want it now!"

*laughs*
what a gooberish question. :)

41. What are you proud of having done?
Ehhhhh, the usual "calm perseverence" stupid boring stuff. Whatever. Staying sane.

As for tonight... ha ha, very funny. Our plane takes off at 6:00 AM tomorrow, so we're just going to have dinner at B and D's (pizza cooked on the pizza stone I gave them for Christmas, yay!) and go to sleep. A million people are expected to turn out for First Night tonight... you know, I've always wanted to do First Night and I never get to. Someday, dear Boston my city, someday.

Here's to the best and most flowy and astoundingly wonderful 2004 to everyone!
I may post from the road and I may not. Cheers, anyway. *clink*

Thanks!
