Maybe I'm just going to be sleepy forever now? I assume not, but I clocked another nine hours last night. Hopefully my immune system or something is enjoying the extra time to work.
Me:
I got pretty panicky about my to-do list last night, not least because I'm flying to California on Monday for a dratted work trip. But it's going to work out reasonably if I skip a couple of parties and focus on things today, which I have been doing (including writing this post).
Me:
- Promotion committee. Basically lost 2.5 days to this, and it's over and gone. As always I learned a lot, both about what's going on at the company (a random deep-dive into the work of 13 senior engineers will always turn up some interesting bits) and how to dig into evidence. My initial decisions did match the committee's decisions in all cases but one, if you count all my "not sure" scores as "don't promote" -- which you should, because I had that "not sure" option and the committee did not -- so that was nice. Improving.
- Our new couch showed up, and
heisenbug and I have confirmed that we can each lean against an end and read. We still have the old one also sitting in our living room, and the cats still prefer that one. I'm waiting for them to be off it for a moment, so that I can shove the couches together to make a couch-nest. Hey, I'm an adult and I get to decide what that means now. - I got mansplained super egregiously at work this week, and I'm doing an awful job of figuring out how to productively work with our new PM and PgM, and I accidentally got mouthy about something that happened in promo committee because I was so excited to have context on something, and I generally feel bad about myself and Zillian and tech.
- I had a good handstand lesson yesterday with Pokemon, who has switched his cueing to "yes, DO use your back muscles and stick your butt out with great vigor". Using the back chain of my body is proving super useful, although it's horrifying just how heavy my hips are and (for this purpose) I sure wish I had a different weight distribution, because I am having to use a smaller part of my body to lift a much bigger part. If I could be a guy for a few hours I'd have more interest in trying out handstands than trying out sex.
- Nala went to the vet for her checkup, and she's lost a few more ounces and is slightly anemic. Kidney numbers holding steady though, and no return of her cancer, so I guess we'll try to do better with the fluids and she'll keep on purring for a while. She's so durable. <3
