For my next writing exercise I'm supposed to be thinking of a multi-person scene that I can easily write 300-600 words about, and, in procrastinating by writing this instead, I've thought of the obvious thing to write. Tricked you, brain!
Anyway, the chores don't stop, but relaxies happen too. Went with
heisenbug to my acro base's house -- and it strikes me that he really needs a name here since he's coming back into my life, so I will call him the Monk. We brought cauliflower soup, and roasted veggies, and got a surprisingly nice spread with civilized well-set tables and perfectly done brisket. Also a surprise announcement that the Monk sneaked off and legally married his primary partner, the Nun! Which is great. Talk at the party was a funny mix of topics: a very intense birth-and-labor scene, acrobatics and aging, and ridiculous things that came up while playing Drawful 2.
Christmas itself brought so many delicious books. My favorite presents are starting to be the things that provide actual Christmas Day activities, though, in this case an awesome steampunk griffin puzzle from Artifact Puzzles, given to us by the bug's parents. SO MANY GEAR SHAPES in the puzzle, hidden in the way the pieces are cut, and a massive steampunky surprise that I won't spoil. We ended up giving away the last puzzle from this place, but I think I'll keep this one for future get-togethers. (Not to be outdone,
heisenbug has given me the miniature NES that comes with 30 games, and I'm playing happily through Super Mario Bros.)
I have gotten some nice low-stress Norwood time, and Lion time, and even some Lion-and-bug time in the form of double-snuggle movie watching (with bonus
melebeth time, even). I didn't like the movie, but eh... that matters less, and feeling people breathe matters more. Also, increasing my movie literacy. Priorities.
Having this time off is probably very good for me.

Date: 2018-12-28 08:40 pm (UTC)This exercise was about switching POV during a narrative, first very explicitly and then very not-explicitly (which tends to turn into mush at worst, and involved-narrator at best, even if one is trying to stick to limited 3rd person). I wrote about Lion's blood draw since it had three characters with distinctly different roles.
I really liked seeing you, too. Glad we'll likely get to hang out some in January by virtue of being in the same places. :)
