Much frustration and no $900

Well, I just came from the Somerville city hall, and they said it's going to be an extremely long process to get the money refunded that we (our mortgage company) wrongly paid in taxes on the house. Before we can do anything we have to wait for our neighbors' checks to go through so the city shows an actual surplus in the house's account, and then we have to jump through many hoops and get copies of many cancelled checks before we even have a prayer.
OH this is wrong. The lady at the city treasury actually told me that she, personally, would never allow her taxes to be escrowed, because mortgage companies make so many mistakes. Sigh, I didn' t know that. I thought automatic taxation sounded kind of nice (as in, yay, I don' t have to deal with it). There is very little I can do at this point except call the mortgage company, inform them in no uncertain terms to pay ONE-THIRD of any future bills they may be sent for my account, and ask for an application to take the escrow account off the mortgage. Apparently this is possible. I wish I'd known that two months and 900 dollars ago. But, it's not my lunch money, and we're not paying interest on our now-negative escrow account. So it's just a huge pain-in-the-ass exercise in doing paperwork.
Forgive me for using the no-comment feature... I dunno what you'd say about this anyway, and I got quite enough comments yesterday, you know? Today I should get some work done. :)
