Empty house dance

OMG. The bug is gone, flying to see friends for NYE, and being alone at home is just wild. As usual. The house cleans up easily, not because he's messy but just because every living being in a domicile is a lot. I should know, I'm taking care of six of them right now (me, our three cats, and two neighbor cats).
Anyway, I want to dump this holiday week here, as I'm dumping the year in another window. It's been peaceful/good. Christmas was a whole lot like Christmas Eve -- the bug and I woke up, got coffee, did stockings, ate breakfast and did presents in that order. My favorite stocking stuffer (given) was a dragonfruit, which got a satisfying "what the hell?" when the bug pulled it out. I really like the idea of weird fruits as a stuffer, and maybe it'll be rambutans all around next year. Anyway, all presents went over well and I curled up with The World of Chas Addams for a while on the beanbag. Then we ate some tacos, made some chickpea salad and went over to Blue-Green Street for the afternoon along with other friends. There were a few more presents (plus a whole stocking for us! unexpected!) and Perse absolutely nailed mine with a reverse coloring book and some fun-looking novels. It was convivial. There were some snuggles, and the squirrel looked relaxed for the first time in a while. Bug said he loved it over there, which was a real "awww" moment.
Three days later I got a lightning-quick visit from
apfelsingail, who thus got to meet Caltrop as a kitten and who also gave me a great-looking book... and the squirrel and I went to talk to some Arlington landlords who were absolute sweethearts, but their experience was more like "we rent to our really good friends and have no idea about most of the legal ins and outs".
The winter break is always a time when I try to clean things up. The place always looks so festive for Christmas and then so spacious and clean when I un-Christmas! Happiness on both ends. Give it away, give it away, give it away, give it away now: got rid of my drip coffee maker, Razor scooter, cat food, three bags of different cat litter. I also took down the line that masks and sunglasses have been hanging from since 2020, and we're going to get some small shelves instead. No major projects this year though; the place is in fine shape. I did do some cord management -- as house things go, it's cheap to buy ethernet cables and power cords that are just the right length and nail 'em to the wall.
I tried to start on a mini-Lego kit that the baby squirrel gave me (it is, in fact, of a grey squirrel), but it turns out that the small kitten is fascinated by the small pieces and wants to eat them. Yikes. Never mind, handstands it is.
