Four social things beyond the usual:

  • Virtual chat with another FI Googler who's more cynical about working than I am. An inheritance situation; I felt envious and also not envious.

  • Coffee with [personal profile] meat_and_breath to discuss tattoo designs and introduce her to the newest dispensary in my square.

  • Coffee with [personal profile] randysmith across two coffee shops! There's a new passionfruit pound cake at the second one we went to.

  • Iced tea with a circusy Xoogler who wanted to talk philanthropy, circus and life.

A few useful but inefficient things, like getting spiral binding put into our new book of crossword puzzles. I closed a lot of browser tabs, in several cases by buying the thing I'd been staring at for weeks and weeks. Moved the bedroom dressers and cleaned up all the sticky dust behind them (yech). Cooked a bit more than usual. Read a long book, though I didn't love it.

Actual Birthday: the bug is taking me to a Cure concert in a week, and surprised me with a small stack of Cure CDs to go with that.... including a ripped CD of the unreleased songs they've been playing, which I just listened to and looked up all the lyrics to tonight. So good. That was a great present. There are some really fantastic posters being released on this tour, too. At any rate, I went with the bug to get lobster sandwiches at an excellent hole-in-the-wall seafood shop that Lion introduced me to ages ago. So expensive, so delicious. I worked out, I replied to people on Facebook, I got a quick squeeze from the squirrel as it dashed from one thing to the next. Then the bug and I did our usual check-in.

There were two medical things: one good news (my allergies are NOT so bad), and one bad news (Hypercube's asthma, which is technically allergic bronchitis, is worse than before). We had tried to decrease some medications, but now we'll increase them all again.

One nerdy thing: I made a bunch of progress on learning vector art / Inkscape, and got far enough on tattoo designs to order a couple of them custom (in temporary form) from Momentary Ink. I expect to iterate for a while before I find something I'm sure I like having on my skin. The vector art is really fun -- it feels way more powerful than Photoshop, etc.

All of this is slowly giving way to anxiety about going back to work tomorrow, and some about the current Reddit shark-jumping. I'll miss scrolling Reddit at night. But my to-read shelf is pretty full too, and I'd like to actively read that down before Christmas, so it's pretty clear that a stint in meatspace will be good for me.

ooo, I want to know where to go for good lobster sandwiches. (I mean, I have plenty of good options already, but more is better.)

I was going to ask if it was Alive & Kicking; I'm not surprised to have been correct. :-D

Oh man. I have not been able to make ANY headway teaching myself vector art programs. I am very curious both how you’re approaching it and what you’re drawing? Hope to get to see the latter presently…

Thank you! I had gotten stymied finding tutorials that weren’t related to what i wanted to do and these seem like a good start at least. Inkscape has seemed extremely not user friendly when i have looked at it but i should try again :)
I look forward to seeing how it works for you!
