Even aside from the reversal of corporate fate in my last (access list only) post... last week was a big week.

I worked late on Wednesday and Thursday because it's promotion time at work, and the meetings were kind of scheduled for west coast time. These days I half-run the meetings, helping my director out. I only had one promotion case to make for my own team, a junior engineer promo which I had set up meticulously with a suitable project months in advance, and that went through without drama. Just the way I like it.

The squirrel got over his covid in time for me to go over on Tuesday night. I didn't see him or the rest of the squirrel family much this week because he had an out-of-town friend visiting over the weekend, but we did get a great background check back on Perse's friend who wanted to rent the cottage. We all agreed on final lease terms and I've been chasing down DocuSign signatures, but it is happening and we won't lose out on any rent at all. I will not be afraid of "off season" again with this property.

Attended a 20th birthday party for a bookstore, a local bookstore I've been supporting for 20 years and in which everything was 20% off, and acted accordingly.

Then on Sunday I finally got to hold my "get out the vote" postcard-writing party, and enough people showed up that it all got done early but never so many at one time that we overflowed my table. That seems like success to me. Now I hold onto the postcards until Oct 26, and mail them. And cast my own vote early, at City Hall, a few days before that when early voting opens.

I did some truly lousy handstands on Wednesday -- just couldn't invert. And some mixed performance on handstand work for my coach in Perth. I just finished the audiobook of The Art of Learning (which is mostly a memoir, but it is a memoir by a guy who made it into the highest ranks of two very disparate forms of competition) and it certainly gave me some ideas on how to train that I don't have time for right now. And might not even make time for if I weren't working. Still, it's appealing. I'd like to borrow that guy's brain and apply it to the problem of the press for a while.

The Blacktongue Thief is a whole lot of fun so far, just as advertised by various people. I scored some hot new graphic novels at the sale too, so it looks like I'm in for a rollicking few weeks of reading.
