Portrait sitting

Wow. That pretty much confirmed my image of myself as the least photogenic girl on earth... even a fourth-generation super-high-class photographer (who charges tens of thousands for huge poster-size portraits printed on canvas, things meant for palaces and museums and such) can only make me look good about one out of every ten times. Uggggghhh... yes, there's a reason I collect good pictures of myself: they're rare. Seriously, for every one I show off here from time to time, there are at least 20 that didn't turn out well at all.
At any rate, I hadn't realized this place (Bachrach) only does archival-quality, acrylic-topped, dry-mounted prints that cost a fortune. That gift certificate was worth over $400, all told! So we found a lovely shot for our free eight by ten, and then we decided to buy a 5x7 of our second-favorite shot for HLM's parents, and then a set of wallet-sized ones just because, at $60 for the set of 6 or 10, they seemed really cheap. So that was today's little glimpse into how the extravagant people live. It was interesting to see HLM's reactions to pictures of him and of me... he likes pictures of me that show a much wider range of expression than I find remotely attractive, and I'm more tolerant of some of the things his face does than he is. I guess we're all just picky about ourselves.

I think it would be really fun to get portraiture done because of the wider range of expressions. I always have the same smile in every picture (because I know it's the only one that looks good), and it would be interesting to see other options in a more controlled setting.
