Happy 2025

That's over; and I don't mean 2024, I mean that the houseguest horde, which arrived on Sunday, has gone. These are both friends of the bug's and it was basically a 4-day slumber party. The visit was stressful at first because the bug was pretty sick and so I did all the initial setup and feeding, but he recovered, and the dudes learned their way around our kitchen too.
We played games that were new to all of us -- CDSK, which would be way better without the final square on its board, and Daybreak which was complicated, beautiful, and kind of sobering (we didn't finish, but were well on the way to societal collapse by the end of Round 2. Mostly because two world powers didn't know what we were doing, and shut down dirty power production before we had greener sources ready). Also one more, Deep Sea Adventure, which was fun and cute. We traded book / game / music recommendations like always, along with life updates.
We rang in the New Year in the middle of probably the worst movie I've ever seen, which followed one I found unwatchably slapsticky. Silver lining: I got a whole lot done on editing my annual exercise video. It's not public yet because I'm waiting for permission to post a few clips involving someone else, but it's the first time in a while I've had a completed draft of that on Jan 1. I finished my annual retrospective on Dec 31, too.
We took the friends to the WNDR museum, which is all interactive exhibits. There's one where you can have a closeup photo taken of your eye, and then the iris will be displayed massively blown up on the wall in the middle of a bunch of other recent eye pictures. I hadn't done it the first time I went to WNDR, so this time I waited in line, and when my eye showed up I heard multiple people exclaiming over the pretty eye. So that was a strange little moment. The bug happily outed me ("that's HER eye!") and I took a picture. Wonder if I could embed it? Three tries later, I think not, but here's a link to imgur: Iris at the WNDR museum .
I do in fact have a cold now, and the next couple of months are going to be a little uh, something. So I'm trying to remember to look forward to small things that happen along the way to the big things. Here are a few that I'm intending to add to my calendar with cheerful color coding:
Did I mention I have a LOT of delicious-looking books to read? Well I do. So that's the state of things for me, the small creature frolicking in the leaves of a potentially doomed forest. Happy New Year, friends.

- Local H-Mart opening soon (rumor says 1/9)
- Squirrel-versary celebration (4 years, definitely 1/9)
- Ezra Klein interviewing Oliver Burkeman (not sure, but soon)
- Severance Season 2 coming out (Friday, 1/17)
- Contortion handstand class starting the 12th
- Dynamic acro with new base, starting the 6th
- Bug-versary on 2/5
Did I mention I have a LOT of delicious-looking books to read? Well I do. So that's the state of things for me, the small creature frolicking in the leaves of a potentially doomed forest. Happy New Year, friends.

Date: 2025-01-04 02:29 pm (UTC)This reminds me that my other demi-social media site, besides this one, is Goodreads -- I know that people are switching to storygraph because of Jeff Bezos being an asshole but there's no real issue with Goodreads itself -- and I've found it to be nice to review books there. If you might be tempted in that direction, I'll DM you my Goodreads profile and we can be friendses.
