Squatting 150
Jul. 10th, 2005 11:46 pmYou don't even want to know how many hours I spent this weekend dealing with cabinet hardware, and doing chores in anticipation of doing none next weekend. :b
However, today I did something I had set as a pseudo-goal but not expected to reach for a couple more months at least, and squatted 150 for the first time ever. (Incidentally, this means I get to post about lifting again, whether I bore you or not.) As on many breakthrough-type days, I started off tired. The 120-pound set weighed a ton... then the 140-pound set seemed shockingly light. So I did 10 reps instead of the 6 I'd planned on, loaded on ten more pounds and did my 6-rep set at that weight instead. I have no idea what happened there... two weeks ago I was buckling under the 140 and had to move down in weight. But I'll take it. :)
While I'm on this topic, yesterday I also managed to balance in a forearm stand for 10 breaths without touching the wall. Though I don't really have it yet, forearm stands seem to be progressing about the way headstands were doing a couple of months ago--so it's perhaps another 2 months until I have reasonable steadiness and can work in the center of the room. I should perhaps stop working on the hotshot moves and get back to stretching out my hips, true, but they're fun... and they do build core strength.
We took a great picture today that I'm dying to post, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow since I forgot the dratted cable for the camera at work.

Date: 2005-07-11 05:32 am (UTC)Oh well. Lifting and rhapsodies are fun! It's too bad you don't live closer to Boston or I'd totally take you to the gym and show you how to do things.

Date: 2005-07-15 12:27 pm (UTC)Are you liking full ROM better? What different results are you getting from them? I would be curious to experiment, but, because of the above, if I did it I'd be very cautious with loading on weight.
(The other thing I'm curious about is what angle your toes are at. I find that the more weight I have on, the more I pretty much keep my toes parallel/forward and not too far apart. I often do my last set with a wider stance to hit my inner thighs... but apparently for some people the wider stance is easier to begin with. All very strange.)
