I just read the last page of the last chapter of the NASM textbook... whee. The final chapter was on professional development, and it's basically where they tried to cram the Dale Carnegie course and a sales course and a little on basic math (if I want this income and I have that closing rate, I'm going to have to talk to this many potential clients per week to close enough sales) into one chapter. It's all pretty basic stuff. I was amazed, though, by how only one trainer at McGym has ever implemented even the very first step of the proposed process -- say hi, be friendly, and offer to help maximize one exercise the client is doing. One trainer once! And he came nowhere near actually getting my contact information or even hinting that he'd like me to be a client. I do understand that McGym has a lot of members on the lower end of the income scale and that many trainers there rely on the three free sessions thrown into a long membership at McGym... but still, sheesh.

I also had a hell of a time trying to answer the following four questions about my own goals:
  1. What are you trying to achieve?
  2. How long has this been a goal?
  3. What is most important to you about achieving that?
  4. What has prevented you from achieving it in the past?

Durr. Those questions seem great for thinking things through if you have to do that, but what about things that you just intrinsically love? I mean, I want to do the splits so that I will be made of win, and I always have, and that's that. I can give you much better reasons for why I chose this particular blend of coffee. :P

Speaking of splits, I finally saw The Gymnast last night at the MFA. You missed out, [livejournal.com profile] dilletante! I thought it did show a few signs of indie production budget, like slightly grainy video, which means I have less hope now of it being released in real theaters -- but I really liked it. It was pretty and funny, and of course the aerial silks stuff was inspiring as hell. (Yes! I, too, want to be able to climb up the fabric hand-over-hand while holding myself in a pike position like Dreya Weber!) Her character in the movie actually reminded me a little bit of, um, me. Hmm, that sorta thin blonde businesslike aura can be a little offputting, huh?

My hamstring tear is back, at least in a minor way. As various parts of the muscle compensate for other parts, it's wandering around my leg in search of an author or something.
