40 seconds out of 60, 4 mats out of 10...
Apr. 28th, 2013 08:30 pmMy body continues to be tired, tired, tired. I took yesterday almost as a rest day; today I felt better, so I did a 90 minute parkour class (starting to be fun, although I bashed the crap out of my shin) followed by 3 hours of open studio at Local Circus School. I have to wonder if I am, in fact, overdoing it and should rest again tomorrow morning.
I like the parkour classes, which scrape up my hands but are teaching me to land very softly when I jump. (That makes me feel like a ninja.) The instructors are both hotties, and I like getting a bit of plyo into my life. Not sure I'll continue with the classes -- it depends where they hold classes in May, as they move it around between parks in my town every month -- but it seems plausible.
Mostly at open studio I did shoulder opening drills with Nycotine and handstand homework on my own... so much handstand homework. Try and try and try. I did two new things that were good: one was timing myself with my phone's stopwatch while doing handstands at the wall (floating off, counting the seconds until I hit the wall again or came down). I got one 40-second hold, which I think is a record for me, and I'm setting a goal of 60.
I also started straddling up onto panel mats, and successfully straddled up to a 4-mat thickness quite a few times. I got a base to lie down next to it, and measured out that the distance to his palms when he gets ready for low hand-to-hand is about 10 mats. So assuming my max would really be 5 or 6 mat-thicknesses right now, there does exist a progressive path to the hand-to-hand jump-up. I'll keep doing some of that every week, in addition to the "all failure all the time" tactic of doing five jumps every time I work with the Ant.
