Consolidation
Jul. 6th, 2019 08:22 pmThis was a better week at work and I couldn't really tell you why, except that my circus lessons were back on again and oh -- heh -- there were three days instead of five, which might've helped. The long weekend went largely to adulting, but mostly in a "finally I can do these things waiting in my personal inbox" way, and to being social more than I expected, and finishing How Long 'til Black Future Month? by NK Jemison. If I were to sum up my mental tone for the last week, it feels like I've turned away from some kind of striving or ambitious phase and turned more toward consolidation and sensible managing of what I've got. (Or maybe it's just tiredness brought on by drinking and having my period.)
I went through my clothes with the intent of getting rid of seven shirts (7 came in from London, after all) and ultimately got rid of a lot more than that, plus almost all of my old tights/nylons. Even tried to sell some of the tops at the used clothing store near me, but they didn't want any of the newer, more expensive stuff that I thought was still on-trend... a minor lesson in the impermanence of value.
Workouts are going well and I'm slowly getting better at spinal control in a handstand. I wish I'd understood 8 years ago how much it was going to be about the spine, but I certainly understand now. Better late than never? This year I can feel my ribcage position most of the time when I'm in a straight handstand and I'm working on the same in straddle, and I managed a full press negative on Friday with my coach nattering away to me about lower spine rounding. The journey seems to go on forever, but I definitely prefer this to feeling stalled out.
Side note: As of about a year ago there's a new gym in South Boston that does mainly Ido Portal method stuff, called Body of Work, and I'm interested in trying a class there even though I don't see myself getting out there regularly. First one's free, so all I have to do is find the time.
