A day has passed since my last post. How glad I am to be able to update you!

Think how sucky it would have been if that large search company hadn't been able to make up their minds about me last week. Think how it would have been if they had said "oh, hmm, we liked you but you weren't asked enough coding questions, so we want you to come back in." Think how completely lousy I would have felt being on the knife-edge like that, and how utterly spooked at the thought of two more sessions of whiteboard coding possibly determining my fate. The whole thing would have been almost... almost... evil. And we know they're all "DON'T be evil".

So, that last week couldn't have happened. I've been fine. Not suffering. No wild mood swings. Nope. It's been one day. And today they called me and said the hiring committee wants to move forward with an offer! YES!

It is not final, but the odds of an offer are very high now.

Hot damn. Some of those benefits stunned me. They feed you every day?! Nice. The $5000 reimbursement thing for adopting a child is odd, but I think fair, since they pay medical expenses for giving birth to one.

Yeah, I know, it's a little ridiculous actually. If you work at the googleplex itself, it goes above ridiculous, especially with the food. At the Boston office there is basically just lunch every day, and good snacks in the kitchen.

Much, much more amazing is being able to spend 20% of your work time on a project of your choice -- and I know exactly what I want to do, since google.org (the philanthropic arm of the company) has a global economic development initiative. Hello, my annoying and wonderful calling, I do think I found a lateral way to scooch over toward you. :)

Cool, thank you! I will definitely come back to this when it's time to really start tracking my client's progress. Me, I have all my upper-body stuff memorized and I just use a bitty little notebook for lower body... but for her I'm gonna want to write it all down to make pretty graphs and stuff. :)

In terms of carbon emissions I totally agree with you, but I dunno, man. I've seen the googleplex. It's pretty impressive. Of course, if any job has a higher cool factor than Google, it's yours. :D

I get fed for free at my current job. I read and knit on the Caltrain to my current job (I don't own a motorized vehicle), which has a free shuttle to cover the 3.5 miles from the train to work on the days I don't ride my bike. I have a free gym, dry cleaning service (for pay), and massage (for pay). And all for a job that's 10 miles closer to home. :)

So yeah, I've got it so good already that the Googopoly has little extra to offer me. Not a bad position to be in.
