So then [livejournal.com profile] heisenbug jammed his foot in a weird way yesterday and is on crutches, hopefully just for three or so days. (I went with him to the ER and have been helping him carry his cello around.) Nobody ever hurts themselves doing anything awesome, and this is no exception -- he was just coming down from a handstand, and managed to land on the ball of his foot in a stompy enough way to jam up the middle of his foot. I'm not sure how he managed that. :-/ After walking on it for a couple of miles and then sitting still at a concert for two hours, he suddenly couldn't walk on it. The X-rays say no bones are broken, but it isn't happy.

Then there's Hobbes. He seems really frail now, walking like he's a bit drunk and not really eating much. We're giving him lots of water on the floor, since he can't jump up to the sink anymore (we lift him up and down when it seems he'd like to try). Today he had a little bit of incontinence on the bed, which didn't smell too bad -- he drinks so much water that the ammonia smell was faint -- but I've read that cats hate that. Then tonight he was sniffing around the food bowls when his back legs went out and he just fell on his side.

I'll call the vet in the morning, and really hope [livejournal.com profile] bluechromis gets a chance to come see him next weekend. Ugh, it's so unclear whether this is a final decline. Do cats, you know, persist, once they go all wobbly?

Ugh...I hope Mr. Heisenbug heals quickly. Lend him some patience from your recent health set back.

Hope your kitty heals up also. Definitely worth working talking to your vet. Does your vet have a long history with your kitty?

Oh, poor Hobbes. Keeping my fingers crossed for him. For what it's worth, I knew a cat who spent several years VERY wobbly after a stroke, with regular minor seizures, generally pretty frail, but also amazingly active, stubborn, and happy for a cat who couldn't jump or walk in a straight line. She was a grand old dame. Hopefully your vet will be able to give you a better sense of how he is doing. *hug*

Hugs for the wobbly kitty! It depends on what's wrong with her, but in my experience, yes, cats will persist. I hope he's still happy!

Also, please tell heisenbug I hope his foot gets better! Argh, you're so right about injuries - they never happen while doing something amazing.

This sounds like a pretty rough start to the week. I hope that everyone is feeling better.

I'm not sure about your cat question because I've had one cat die of renal failure and another cat who just died suddenly without any signs.
