Questions from webrat
Feb. 20th, 2004 10:50 amMy life has been on fire this week--oh, no inferno, just the steady burn of progress. Very nice. Wish I hadn't had sex last night when I was really too tired and ended up more or less watching the clock throughout, though... sigh, that's so dumb and harmful when I was trying to be nice. Now I need a definite break to let natural horniness come back. :(
Anyway, here's yet another interview. It got long because I was scribbling it in between doing sections of technical writing for work, while staying late last night, and that makes me babble. *snipsnip*

1.) What's it like having a musically talented person like HLM for a husband? If I recall correctly, you play the piano. Just jealous of anyone that can (especially Vic), cuz I think it's cool as beans to be able to play something. I don't have the patience for it anymore.
Well, as you'd expect, I love the bragging rights, but it's intimidating... puts a hell of a damper on me doing anything musically (although, then again, he encourages it, so hmmm) or having a musical opinion on whether something's good or bad. I'm getting better on that though, and have finally put my foot down and declared that the Doors are good no matter what he thinks. (He does like Vast... good bug.)
I don't really play piano yet. I think I've had five practice sessions so far, and never done anything that he could hear me playing (which he understands). I do want to learn, partly because I think I'd have a shot at getting better than him while he's preoccupied with cello and drums. And that would make me feel like quite the hotshot indeed. I'll never ever have the talent/background he has though, so if I did learn to play and he ever decided to catch up, yeah, he could. Oh well.
2.) If you were an animal, what would you be?
*Beep*... this is a trick question and I know it! The most psychologically healthy answer is "Huh? I am an animal. I'd be a human, of course." Well, to be specific, I'd be a very beautiful and rich female human, preferably immortal and perhaps part vampire, definitely able to fly, who could change into a big cat at will. ;) If I can't be that, oh well, just being a little tabby cat would be fine.
3.) What is your favorite 'science'? (example: astrology, physics, etc) and why?
I suppose physics, since, well, knowing how things work is the bomb. :) It also directly underlies that most enticing discipline called mechanical engineering... gotta know how things work in order to make new things work, and that is what's really really the bomb.
(Biology is awesome, too, for the record, but frighteningly complicated, and with many fewer chances to make new things work. It gets done, but only by a small minority--especially as compared to software engineering where most of us get the chance to make new things, and mechanical where it's still a fair percentage.)
4.) You don't own a tv. You have books, HLM and ....? What else do you do in your spare time (besides the gym and kicking people's ass)
Well, now that I'm done rolling on the floor laughing my ass off and pissing my pants (and have washed the pants)... what free time? I'm not sure it's been clear just how much time those four things take, and of course with condo-fixing taking the rest of my time I'm not even doing what I "usually" do. But here are some things I do when things are calmer.
I cook a reasonable dinner-type meal about twice a week, and try to do more. I do tae kwon do four times a week (somewhat over an hour per class). I lift weights twice a week (total: 2.5 hours). I read for perhaps an hour each weekday when you add it all together, mostly while commuting, and (usually) at least that much on weekends. I do chores, duh, and dishes for two people adds up more than I wish. Twice a week or so I see friends, and of course I pay attention to HLM and have sex 2-3 times. We do crossword puzzles together. In theory, I play piano and call a long-distance friend every Sunday night, and every three weeks I go to the library. Every four weeks we go to a strategy game night at T's place, and every now and then a movie. I maintain an active presence on Livejournal. And there's no telling when I may need to write something, make a quilt, enroll in a class that will suck up 1 night/week for some period of time, or practice juggling, or... who knows what. There's certainly no shortage of things to do.
5.) Magic 8 ball. What was your favorite answer?
NOT LIKELY
6.) What was it like meeting your biological daughter? (optional - feel free to skip this if it's too personal)
You mean meeting her for the first time, right? I just discussed the second time, so I assume that's what you're asking...
It felt like a lab experiment with emotional overtones. :) She was not my idea of an actual person at the time--yes yes, babies are genetically people, but that's about the extent of it. I was, to be honest, rather repelled by how fat she was. V claimed responsibility for that right away, though, and he turned out okay, so I felt a bit better--and then I noticed she had my eyes, which did indeed cause an emotional twinge & feeling of connectedness. I was glad that both daddies seemed very loving and also very able to care for her, and thrilled to get a chance to talk to them since I hadn't seen them for over a year (and they, unlike the baby to date, are actually friends). I remember having some concern that I shouldn't act too interested/enthralled with the baby if I did have a more emotional reaction, but that didn't become an issue... it was all pretty laid-back. It's one of those things that sounds like it should have been weird or something, but really wasn't.
