Thanksgiving

As with many big events, it really started the day before. Wednesday at work was super chill physically (few people in the office, the cafeteria serving brunch for lunch), but got oddly hectic virtually with people wanting to get their code reviewed before the holiday. I got away, did a quick workout at the gym, and helped
heisenbug bake pies until midnight or so.
The next day I got up early to start work on brussels sprouts and yeast rolls (running to the gym for another quickie during the first rise of the dough). It seemed all a bit much for easy mode, but I was pleased at how well we worked together, and we were done and had the kitchen mostly clean by the time we walked the few blocks over to my friend's. From there it was a nice potluck situation, with duck and turkey and acorn squash appearing magically.
It's a small socioeconomic circle, people. We were at an eight-person, four-heterosexual-couple party, of which we only knew the hosts in advance. But it turns out I had met both the unknown women before, as one used to be around LCS and I'd helped the other one test a float tank once (she runs a float tank business now, but at the time she didn't yet, and needed testers). At any rate, all very comfortable. One person brought a really pleasant homemade wine (!), and there was food and a few rounds of Joking Hazard and a lot of lounging about in the enviable living room. (And I do mean enviable. Fireplace, giant leather sectional couch, this sheepskin rug, some really nice bolsters and a giant beanbag thing make for excellent lounging.)
I'd like to be friends with one of those other couples, I think, given worlds enough and time -- even with their very active 4-year-old, who was athletic and cute in a "danger child" kind of way.
Came home, finished up our kitchen, thought about the next holiday a bit, and lounged about reading most of How to Retire Happy, Wild and Free in front of my own fireplace with my own young'un, Hypercube.
Thankful for Nala being in stable health, after this year's aggressive cancer. They say money can't buy love, but as long as money can buy life-saving surgery, it obviously can.
