Thanks & things

Greetings, DreamWidth, on the holiday. I've been flopping about and recovering from things at home, despite the triple surprise of a houseguest (luckily it was
apfelsingail, who I like hosting), my period coming 5 days early, and, as of today, definitely getting a cold. SIGH. I'm glad that
apfelsingail commanded me to lie around in the couch nest on Tuesday and basically read Upon This Rock by David Marusek in one sitting... I needed that.
It's always impressive how even a short break in life/household routines requires a lot of catching up, even when one's brain didn't get put through a blender. But all the laundry & dishes are done now, and I even posted some stuff online where people who like free stuff can have it (no takers on the old couch yet -- does anyone local know someone who might want a couch?). Today I rotated some definitely-summer-only clothes to some drawers and some definitely-winter-only stuff to the closet, and found a few things to get rid of along the way. It surprises me that I own eight dresses, not counting the glam one I haven't worn yet. Maybe I should make it a project to wear them all over the course of next summer. But that's the thing, right? Seasons. It's very, very hard to get really minimal with a wardrobe with the level of temperature/weather variance we have here, not to mention needing to work out in all the weathers.
Later today we're going to a Friendsgiving event with folks we aren't especially close to, which is a fine way to get to the food-and-companionship part of things without the stress part of things. I'd've somewhat preferred to go to Lion's like we did last year, but that didn't work out this time and the later schedule suits me better anyway. Yesterday I made cookies with apricots and oats in them, and will do brussels sprouts soon, and maybe bring Red Flags in case anyone wants to play a party game. I won't want to stay long, though, with this stupid cold.
Last year I said I was grateful for Nala's continued health, post-surgery. Want to guess who is curled up between my knees right now, on her favorite fuzzy blanket? Yes. She stays on the list, a little more skinny and wobbly than last year but still loved. <3 I think I'll just append last Sunday's back walkover and something about Lion, and call it good on gratitudes.
