I met with my financial advisor last week -- thanks to timing (by which I mean the market's bounce from the March crash) everything looks smooth for me year-over-year. I crossed another Big Round Number milestone on savings. I told him that I basically want to survive tech and get out, and he said "um... you're not just surviving, you're thriving!" He's right, of course... when you look at just the one metric he looks at. And that's why he's useful.

I met with my doctor on Friday. My cycle has been going crazy (31 days, then 21 days obviously kicked off by stress, then again 15 days later [so is that 15 days or 36 days?] and now almost continuously since June 10, with varying levels of flow that are actually higher again). The doctor thinks it's likely stress, but also to check with my mother about expected age of menopause, and let her know next week if it still doesn't stop. She could, apparently, stop it with progesterone. Or we could in general go on hormonal control just to provide me with regularity. I haven't asked yet whether endometrial ablation is a realistic option -- I don't want children, and I might prefer surgery to hormone stuff. OTOH, I then wrote to my mother and learned that her last period was at age 48. How intriguing: 48 minus 14 is only 34 years of bleeding and I'm already done with the first ~30. That's the vast majority of it. What interesting math.

i am also having menstrual (??) weirdness -- irregular cycles, spotting, some other symptoms that i think might be cycle/hormonal related, but i'm not sure. i'm really dubious of hormonal solutions for myself -- like you i was on BCP for about 10 years from 19-29, and i'm not sure whether it was doing bad things to my brain (because 29 is also when i got some heavy-duty therapy and was able to go OFF my antidepressant so who knows). but hormonal IUD made me suicidally depressed, so now i'm really not sure i should fuck with them.

bleh. sympathy.
