In the meantime, the bug and I flat-out ordered our Thanksgiving dinner this year. Complete with a pie. We've done so many holidays with just the two of us (and the cats) that we haven't shared in this year's communal agonizing over whether to travel or get together with someone, but it's the first time we've moneyed our way out of cooking.

I think it's fine. I've got enough other stuff on my mind and to-do list.

Ordered a really lovely pork tenderloin from my favorite local butcher, so I plan to cook that, pie, and maybe mashed potatoes. I might add in an order of something prepared, but eh.

OK, there was some really excellent looking turkey chili offered through my CSA, so there will be turkey chili, too.

Now on to the important stuff: apple pie is a given. Should I ALSO try a cranberry curd pie? I do love cranberries, but that's a lot of pie, even with bike rides scheduled.

Yeah, we ordered our Thanksgiving dinner from Fresh Direct. I'll probably bake something for dessert. I was not particularly interested in cooking turkey, and C said he would be sad to have Thanksgiving without turkey, so ordering seemed like the best option. He's never had Thanksgiving without his parents before/he's used to big Thanksgiving meals with extended family, so I wanted to defer to him on food because it's a bigger deal for him. I've had a variety of Thanksgivings but haven't done Thanksgiving with my own family since early college, and it's not a big deal to me one way or another. I've had two-person Thanksgivings and I've had solo Thanksgivings (including one that involved ice skating and hot cider and pumpkin pie) and I've had big Thanksgivings with other people's families and I've been fine with all of those, so a two-person Thanksgiving this year with me not cooking is fine by me.

He hasn't been into video calls lately, but maybe/we'll see. We might get together outdoors with his parents the day after Thanksgiving if the weather's good - they live just a 10-minute ferry ride away now (plus a 10-minute walk from our place to the ferry terminal and a 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal to their place) and their building has an outdoor terrace where we could eat pie, or we could just take a walk by the water.

Agreed. We did the same. There's too much else that I can't outsource, *and* it helps support local restaurants.
