One week left, and goodbye to March

Last week was characterized mostly by knowledge transfer and handoff. I spent 2 hours with the guy who's going to replace me, one hour each for discussing each team and their leads. And another five meetings having required Q1 checkins with me, one of my six ex-reports, and their new manager. (Only one of these is left for tomorrow). I had several 1:1 mentoring/goodbye sessions, mostly with women.

And oh, the cleanup. I've turned off my fancy email filters, unsubscribed from lots of mailing lists, handed off or closed all my bugs, and... a lot of that sort of thing.

So now there's one more week; or less than that, since I failed to post this on Sunday night and now it's Monday.

This morning my more personal farewell email got auto-sent. I gave one talk, out of three scheduled for the week; one more is tomorrow and the last on Friday. There are a couple of reviews that I don't care about but must attend; one negative promo outcome that I got permission to share early so that I could help a more junior manager deliver the bad news; and a couple of goodbye events. Blah blah. Today was dumb and rushed like any other Monday.

For all it's gone reasonably, I did have a little flash of panic on Friday when I felt over-scheduled, and I am not enjoying looking at the March page of my wall calendar, which is filled with post-it flags of important battles, all past now. March's picture was prettier but I want, very literally, to turn the page.

OMG, me too on some level. I'm calm but there's wild excitement leaking through some of the corporate-faced cracks, like I ran into motyl (who ditched my employer last month) at the gym yesterday and we both were basically jumping up and down.

The thought of spring actually springing, while I simultaneously can deal with shit without rushing all the time, is off-the-charts amazing. Today that doesn't feel like it will happen, but intellect says it will. Luckily I'm used to my emotions lagging behind the world a little bit! Keep on chuggin'.

I was briefly tempted to organize my personal trainer and our level 99 buddy to be waiting for you outside Friday EoD chanting "one of us! One of us!". Not tempted enough to be late for my bday dinner so you'll just have to imagine us cheering for you :-D

HAH, that would be hilarious but I think I'll be happy to slink out quietly. I got all the send-off anyone could ask for today, so Friday is mostly just "return equipment".
