Beauty, taxes, mimimalism, horror movie
Apr. 12th, 2019 01:39 pmI got my brows and lashes tinted on Sunday, which I mention not because it was a big deal but because it was a first. And this is where I keep track of my firsts. My brows looked a bit dramatic early this week -- they overdye them slightly so that they'll stay looking good for longer, which is reasonable.
Taxes are done with fairly minimal fuss, following the who-pays-how-much spreadsheet we made up last year. TurboTax isn't made with the idea that two people filing jointly might still want information about each person's earnings, but we can get close enough to feel okay about the outcomes. I did go and modify my tax withholdings a bit, mostly to avoid the refund we are getting from the state this time because of me.
Saw the movie "Us" last weekend in the theater, and while I didn't end up thinking it was GOOD -- too many plot holes for me -- I did find myself discussing and thinking about the metaphors several times over the next few days. (Some parts of us have to suffer, in order to let us live the lives that we do.)
And because everything I've consumed lately has seemed to be unexpectedly heavy or unexpectedly bloody/violent, I read a cute little minimalism book called Goodbye, Things. I liked it that this author avoided any kind of snobbery, and in fact said that minimalism is maybe best for messy people who kind of can't handle having a lot of stuff. Frankly, I agree with him, and think it might be good for Highly Sensitive People (and those kind of close to it) as well.
