Pose of the month at my yoga place for July is galavasana. If I were naming these things, I'd have called it Levitating Pigeon... but then, if I were naming things, pigeon itself would be called Burning Outer Hip Pose, so no I wouldn't have.
I love arm balance months. It's a good thing my thumb is better.

Date: 2006-07-07 12:53 am (UTC)Galavasana's not as hard as it looks... which I guess doesn't make it easy either, but it doesn't require an antigravity belt like some poses do.

Date: 2006-07-10 01:37 pm (UTC)I've been thinking about building a splits trainer, basically, I'd love to work on my center splits but because of my wrist I can't support myself for very long. I'm picturing a long center board with adjustable blocks at each end for bracing my feet at whatever separation distance I want, thus allowing the muscles to relax without relying on wrist support so much. What do you think? I don't think it would be too hard to build.

Date: 2006-07-11 03:08 am (UTC)Center splits... your idea for a trainer sounds okay for saving your wrists, but if you're at least as flexible as me in that direction (and I bet you are) it shouldn't be hard to support yourself on your forearms instead of your wrists. I suck, and even I can do that (and when I sucked even more, I sometimes started by putting elbows on a coffee table...) To me, the nice thing about your trainer idea is the "allowing muscles to relax" part. If you build it I'd definitely love to come over and try it. :)
