Hand bump surgery

This morning I had surgery to remove the ganglion cyst on my hand. Now, instead of a bump, I have Giant Mummy Hand Bandage Theater. They wrapped it up way more than needed, explicitly in order to remind me to take it easy. Ultimate translation: "don't stand on your hands until after we take this thing off on Friday".
I had light sedation, under propofol, but nothing heavier for anesthesia (they were initially planning to go heavier, but I asked them not to). That plus lidocaine worked just fine. I was awake for most of it; I think they said something about making me sleep briefly but then I was moving my arm so they brought me back to drowsy, but I don't remember sleeping. Of course I don't, propofol is a memory disruptor. The funny part is ALL the fussing they did to get me on the table: dressed in stupid robes, strapped down, IV in one hand, sensors on my chest, tape over my belly-button ring (so unnecessary) and contacts out (even more unnecessary). They said "we know, it's like a Nascar pit stop". I asked them what they'd do if my surgery were to be more major, and they said "same thing, basically!" I appreciated the warmed blankets and, really, all of the care they put in, but it was fussier than I'd expected by a long shot.
The root of the cyst extended farther down into the muscle than previously guessed-at, so I'll probably have somewhat more bruising and pain than otherwise anticipated; but they got it all out, and I was back to full alertness quickly. They released me to
heisenbug without checking to see that we actually had a car, which is good, since of course we didn't.
Spending the rest of the day on the couch, obediently doing nothing, which I might have wanted to anyway since I have a sniffly nose. This condition lends itself pretty well to doing sedentary computery chores, like planning travel and going through all my personal starred email, so that's what I'm doing.

Date: 2018-01-24 05:20 pm (UTC)My coach just had one taken out from between his wrist bones, where it was causing trouble for handstands, and another fellow handbalancing student also has one that interferes with wrist flexion. That's pretty common, and I'm glad to have not had that issue.

Date: 2018-01-26 10:34 am (UTC)H had surgery on her foot recently and she wears a silver bangle-style necklace (a collar if it means anything to you). They taped it to her chin (because it doesn’t come off unless for emergencies). They did the same thing when she was just having injections into her foot. Ridiculous!
